Get in touch

Email support@codehound.app. Include your iPhone model and iOS version if you're reporting a problem. If a code was missed or read wrongly, the subject line of the email and the sentence the code appeared in are the most helpful things you can send; please don't forward the whole email unless you're comfortable doing so.

We usually reply within two business days.

Getting started

  1. Install CodeHound on an iPhone running iOS 17 or later.
  2. Tap Sign in with Google and choose the Gmail account you receive promotional email on.
  3. On Google's consent screen, allow CodeHound to view your email messages and settings. This is the read-only permission; the app cannot change anything in your mailbox.
  4. CodeHound scans the last 30 days of your Promotions tab and shows what it found. Pull down on the list to scan again.

Frequently asked questions

Why does CodeHound need to read my email?

The promo codes are inside the emails, so the app has to read them to find them. It asks for Google's read-only Gmail permission, downloads the messages Gmail has filed under Promotions straight to your phone, extracts the deals, and throws the emails away. Nothing is sent to us. See the privacy policy for the details.

Does CodeHound see all of my email?

No. It only requests messages in Gmail's Promotions category, within the look-back window you set (7 to 90 days). Personal mail, receipts, updates and everything else are never fetched. Google's permission screen says "view your email messages" because Google has no narrower read-only permission for a single category.

Google says "Google hasn't verified this app". Is that safe?

You'll see this while CodeHound is going through Google's verification process for apps that read Gmail. The app behaves exactly the same either way. If you're using a test build, you'll also be signed out after seven days, which is a Google rule for unverified apps; just sign in again.

The list is empty or missing deals
  • Make sure Gmail's inbox categories are turned on and the email actually lands in the Promotions tab. CodeHound only scans that category. Emails you've filed elsewhere, and emails from stores that Gmail puts in Primary, aren't scanned.
  • Try a longer look-back window in Settings, then pull to refresh.
  • Turn off Codes only in Settings to see offers that don't need a code.
  • Codes that exist only inside an image with no text can't be read.
  • If a scan is interrupted by Gmail's rate limit, the status line says how many emails were skipped. Scanning again a minute later picks them up.
A code is wrong, or a deadline looks off

CodeHound reads dates as US month/day, so "9/10" is September 10. When it isn't sure about a code it leaves it out rather than guessing; tap the deal and use Open in Gmail to check the original. If you spot a pattern it gets wrong, email us the phrasing and we'll teach it.

How do I disconnect CodeHound from my Google account?

In the app, open Settings and tap Sign out. That revokes CodeHound's access with Google, removes the token from your phone and deletes the saved deals. You can also remove CodeHound at myaccount.google.com/permissions, which stops it from reading anything immediately.

How do I delete my data?

All of your data is on your phone. Signing out deletes the saved deals; deleting the app deletes everything. There is nothing stored on our side, because there is no "our side": CodeHound has no server.

Does it work with Google Workspace or school accounts?

Yes, as long as your administrator allows third-party apps to access Gmail and your account has inbox categories enabled. Some organisations block this.

Does it work with Outlook, iCloud or Yahoo mail?

Not yet. CodeHound relies on Gmail's Promotions category to know which emails are promotional. Other providers are on the wish list; tell us which one you'd like.

Why are there ads, and what do they know about me?

CodeHound is free and a small banner ad in the deals list pays for it. The ads come from Google AdMob and are requested as non-personalized everywhere, so they are based on the ad slot, not on you, and the app never asks for permission to track. Your email and your deals are never shared with the ad service. In the EEA, the UK and Switzerland a consent form appears first, and Settings → Privacy options lets you change your answer later.

Is there an Android version?

No, CodeHound is iPhone only for now.
